Relay Torch The Nelson Mandela Museum hosted the lighting of the torch at the museum on 19 July 2005. 46664 is the prison number of Mr. Mandela while he was imprisoned at Roben Island. Mr. Madiba is currently using this number to spread the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign thoughout the world. Amongst the people who graced the event include O. R. Tambo District Municipality Mayor Zoleka Chapa, Nelson Mandela Museum Board members Chief P. Holomisa, Adv. L. Mpumlwana and Mr. A Wakaba, KSD Councilor Mrs L. Mpahlwa and Prof P. Luswazi.
27 July 2005- Logo Design Competition Award Ceremony
The Nelson Mandela Museum invited all South Africans to submit a logo design to be used for the new corporate identity of the museum. The competition was open to all individuals, learners and students, design and graphic companies etc. More than 200 entries were received with impressive designs.The winning prizes were ranging from R25,000.00- first prize, R15,000.00 - second prize and R10,000.00 for the third prize.

Mr. Mandela and Minister Pallo Jordan sign the deed of donation during the 5th Anniversary of the museum
Mthatha. 22 February 2005. The small town of Mthatha came to a standstill when Mr Mandela and his wife, the graceful Graca Machel, as well as Minister Pallo Jordan visited the museum on its 5th Anniversary to sign the deed of donation. Mr. Mandela looked calm and dignified in his Madiba shirt and watched Ihashe Elimhlophe perform after his speech.
